Amazon to add 1,000 jobs in Ireland, will have 5,000 employees

Amazon's workforce in Ireland will expand to 5,000.
Ten percent of all local jobs in Ireland are with high tech companies Apple, Google and Facebook.
Amazon will seek to hire software and network engineers.

DUBLIN, Ireland: Amazon's workforce in Ireland will expand to 5,000, as the online shopping platform announced it would hire an additional 1,000 employees.

Ten percent of all local jobs in Ireland are with high tech companies Apple, Google and Facebook due to the low corporate tax rate charged to multinationals.

Of the 1,000 new jobs, Amazon will seek to hire software and network engineers working for Amazon Web Services.

Company officials have also said Amazon would open a delivery hub in Ireland in 2021.

Amazon currently uses British locations to transfer packages to Ireland. However, this will become more complicated due to Britain's leaving the European Union, which is resulting in Amazon shifting some infrastructure to Ireland.
