WINDSOR, Ontario: Production at Stellantis' Windsor, Ontario assembly plant will pause for two weeks, as mounting trade tensions trigger early disruptions in North America's auto industry.
Canadian labour union Unifor has announced that the carmaker is halting operations at the facility in response to newly announced tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump.
"Stellantis said the primary driver behind the decision is the announcement of tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump," the union said in a Facebook post.
The plant produces vehicles for the U.S. market, and the temporary closure underscores the immediate ripple effects of the tariff policy, which includes new levies on automotive imports and parts. Stellantis has not yet commented on the shutdown.
