Seiya Suzuki hit a grand slam, Alex Bregman and Carson Kelly also went deep, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies 9-3 on Wednesday afternoon in Denver.
Pete Crow-Armstrong and Michael Busch had two hits apiece to back a solid outing by Edward Cabrera (4-3). Chicago manager Craig Counsell was ejected in the sixth inning.
Brett Sullivan homered twice - the first multi-homer game of his career - and singled, Cole Carrigg hit his first career home run and singled, Troy Johnston had three hits and Willi Castro singled twice for Colorado.
Sullivan's homer into the second deck in right field leading off the third gave the Rockies a 1-0 lead.
The Cubs answered in the fourth against Colorado starter Ryan Feltner. Crow-Armstrong led off with a single, stole second base and moved to third on Busch's one-out single. Feltner walked Ian Happ, and Suzuki followed with the third grand slam of his career.
It was his first since Sept. 26, 2025, against St. Louis.
Carrigg got a run back when he hit a solo shot into the Rockies' bullpen in the bottom of the inning
Chicago added to its lead in the fifth when Busch's single drove in Dansby Swanson, who led off with a walk, and Happ hit a sacrifice fly to make it a four-run game.
Feltner (2-2) allowed six runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings.
The Cubs had a rally thwarted in the sixth and lost Counsell, who was tossed after arguing Ballesteros' double-play grounder should have been ruled a foul ball after it appeared he hit it off of his right shin guard.
Colorado threatened in the bottom of the sixth and chased Cabrera, but left the bases loaded when Kyle Karros flew out to short right field and reliever Phil Maton struck out Ezequiel Tovar.
Cabrera (4-3) allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Chicago extended the lead in the seventh on Bregman's two-run homer, and Kelly hit a solo shot in the eighth. Sullivan hit another solo shot in the ninth.
